Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) secretary P Ramesh today said that BN coalition should take a public stand to state and admit that they are not going to honour the Hindraf-BN memorandum of understanding (MOU).

In an open letter written to BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on the first anniversary of the MOU signing, which took place before the general election, Ramesh said that the government must make a clear stand on the matter.

“We have stated our position that you do not intend to honour the agreement, by (the association’s chairperson) P Waythamoorthy resigning from all government posts he was conferred as part of the agreement,” Ramesh said in his letter to Tengku Adnan, who is now the Federal Territories Minister.

“Now, it is your turn. Please come out publicly and declare BN’s position,” Ramesh added.

He said that Indian Malaysians and all Malaysians would want to know the government’s stand on the matter.

“This has implications for any and all agreements and promises that the BN coalition will continue to make. If you do not honour your agreement in this MOU, will you honour any agreement in any MOU?” he asked.

After signing the MOU, Waythamoorthy urged Indian Malaysians to return BN’s two-thirds majority in the general election. BN won the elections with a majority of 44 seats, but Waythamoorthy was appointed a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. However, after eight months into the job, he resigned earlier this year, blaming the government and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for not fulfilling their pledges as per the MOU.
