A total of 17 divisions are going back to polls in the ongoing PKR elections after complaints were lodged over irregularities in the voting process.
In a statement, the party polls committee (PKR) said that this is due to “problems in the voting process” but did not specify what these problems were.
The announcement comes after the results of the Batang Sadong polls were suspended following complaints of ballot stuffing and other electoral regularities.
Fresh polls for division and central leadership levels will be conducted on May 17 for the following divisions:
1. Setiu
2. Kuala Nerus
3. Kemaman
4. Dungun (division only)
5. Paya Besar
6. Nibong Tebal
7. Jerantut
8. Batang Sadong
9. Kapit (central leadership only)
10. Pengerang (central leadership only)
11. Tenggara (central leadership only)
12. Tenom
13. Keningau (on May 17 and 18)
Four other divisions will also go back to the polls at a different date to be announced later. They are:
1. Bukit Katil (Youth and division only)
2. Tawau (central and division only)
3. Papar (Youth only)
4. Sg Petani (Youth only)
Negri Sembilan, Federal Territories and Selangor are the only states which have not voted in PKR's second direct election.
The highest contested position is deputy president, with incumbent Azmin Ali is currently ahead against two top contenders - secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution and Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
