BN slammed for urging CM to pressure council
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he cannot direct the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) to clarify its stand on hudud as the agency is not under the state administration.
Lim said state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, who recently asked him to seek clarification from MAINPP, should know that the agency comes directly under the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He said state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, who recently asked him to seek clarification from MAINPP, should know that the agency comes directly under the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"As a former state executive councillor, Teng ( left ) should know this. MAINPP is not a state agency but under the Agong. It is not run as a state agency," Lim said in Penang this morning.
"If he still does not understand that, it shows that he is trying to play games. I can only tell him ‘jangan main-main’," he added.
"Jangan main-main (don't play play)" is a phrase often used by the late Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh to tick off anyone who intended to mess with the country's Federal Constitution.
'Penang will not implement hudud'
Lin reiterated the state government's stand that it would not implement Islamic penal system in Penang.
"For Teng to say MAINPP is a state agency is wrong. He should not run away in a typical Gerakan fashion but state BN's stand on hudud," Lim said, after officially opening the Learning Centre and Badminton Academy in Bukit Gelugor.
"Teng does not wish to state BN's stand on hudud but diverts the issue to say MAINPP is a state agency. Also, as a non-Muslim, I cannot interfere in its matters," he added.
Lim also ticked off Teng, who is also state Gerakan chairperson, for asking him to show courage against MAINPP president Salleh Man for lending support to PAS' move to implement hudud in Kelantan.
Salleh, the Permatang Pasir assemblyperson, is the only PAS representative in Penang.
Teng made the call when Lim asked him to state BN's stand on the matter, but the former told Malaysiakini that it is the DAP that should deal with the matter as it is the party's ally PAS that intends to table a Private Member’s Bill on hudud in Parliament next month.
