MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong has clarified that Malaysiakini did not twist his words about MCA's intention to "review its position in BN" if Umno supports hudud.

This was exactly what he had said at a forum on Wednesday, Wee confirmed, but blamed BNBBC.my website for drawing their own conclusions when he spoke to them about "an online portal" that had misquoted him to say that MCA may actually leave BN.

Speaking to Malaysiakini today, Wee said when he realised the BN Backbencher's Council website reported that he had blamed Malaysiakini for twisting his words, he immediately notified them to make a correction.

BNBBC has since corrected their mistake .

However Wee did not elaborate on what he meant by "review".

Wee, who was in Johor Baru yesterday, was reported in Sin Chew Daily saying his “conscience is clear” and that “MCA will do what needs to be done, and say what needs to be said” without being specific.

He reiterated his strong stance against the implementation of hudud, claiming that this was for the sake of his race and future generations.

Despite the Malay community's criticisms, he said he will not back down.

Yesterday, the BN Backbenchers’ Council ran a scathing editorial against MCA on its website, advising MCA to “keep its silence” if it disagrees instead of “stabbing” Umno by openly opposing hudud.

In the editorial on the official site BNBBC.my website entitled ‘No need for MCA to also wail about hudud like the DAP’, the Chinese-based was labelled “biadap” (insolent) for openly opposing hudud.

The website quoted Wee in a separate article where he was reported blaming Malaysiakini for “twisting” his remark that MCA was prepared to leave BN.

DAP: What does 'review' mean?

Meanwhile DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng said Wee's reply did not make sense if MCA would not withdraw from BN should Umno press ahead to support hudud.

"Unfortunately no one understands Wee's twisted logic, because there is no point in reviewing MCA’s position in BN if it does not mean that MCA would withdraw from BN.

"How can Wee say his 'conscience is clear' when his illogical reasoning makes his political motives so unprincipled?" said Lim in a statement today.

"Clearly Wee is consistent by following MCA president Liow Tiong Lai’s double standards of 'saying one thing but does another' when MCA defends Umno for supporting the implementation of hudud in Kelantan and yet opposes PAS for doing exactly the same thing."

Lim further said Wee's claim was meaningless in light of MCA's haste to rejoin the BN cabinet when Umno had "flip-flopped" its opposition to Kelantan's hudud law into now encouraging it.
