One of the two nuns attacked outside a church in Seremban last Wednesday has died.

Julianna Lim, 69, succumbed to her injuries at the Seremban Hospital at 3.25pm.

The matter was confirmed by her lawyer Joy Appukuttan.

"The Infant Jesus (IJ) Sisters will be releasing a press statement soon," he said.

Lim (left) and Sister Marie Rose @ Theresa Teng were attacked in an apparent robbery outside the Church of Visitation while on their way to morning mass.

When contacted, the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur said it has been notified of the death.

An orbituary with further details will be published tomorrow.

The Star today also reported that CCTV recordings show the two nuns were repeatedly hit with a motorcycle helmet.

The recording showed that the assailant, wearing a motorcycle helmet and holding a light torch, had ran after the nuns who were dressed in everyday clothes.

They were found bleeding by a church worker and rushed to hospital.

It was reported that their bags contained a Bible, a rosary, a prayer book and only a small amount of cash.

Police believe that the incident was an attempted robbery, and not a hate crime, and have stepped up patrols in the area.

Case re-classified as murder

When contacted Negeri Sembilan police chief Osman Salleh said investigation into what happened to Lim has been re-categorised as murder.

"For the deceased it has now been reclassified to 302 but for the other nun it is still being investigated under 394," he said.

Section 302 of the Penal Code concerns murder and is punishable with death while Section 394 on causing hurt in a robbery.

Osman said he is unaware of Marie Rose's condition but added that the nun is at home after being released from hospital.

On the CCTV recording obtained by the police of the robbery, Osman said the police forensic was still going through the footages.

In an immediate response, Prime Minister Najib Razak extended his condolences to Lim's family and friends.

"The senseless act that led to her passing must not go unpunished," he said in a Twitter posting.
