Bukit Gelugor candidate Ramkarpal Singh urged MAS to act against state Umno Youth deputy chief Jasmin Noordin as he had pushed himself into the state assembly at about 2.15pm two days ago.
Jasmin ( right ) was among the 12 who forced their way into the House looking for Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer to take him to task for uttering the words “Umno celaka” (damned).
According to Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, Jasmin worked in MAS’ Human Resources Department in Penang.
They were part of about 30 others, comprising members of Umno Youth, Perkasa and NGOs like Federation of Peninsula Malay Students, who rallied at the state assembly gates, hurling fiery accusations of “bangsat, pariah and racist” against Rayer, who was not in the House at the time.
“Unless and until he can provide an explanation as to why he was trespassing on public property and causing nuisance during work hours, disciplinary action should be taken against him,” said Ramkarpal at a press conference yesterday.
“If indeed he took leave, surely he did so for the wrong reasons,” added the lawyer.
“He couldn’t have taken leave to send his son to school - we all know where he was. Obviously that itself constitutes indiscipline.”
‘The Dewan is a public institution’
Ramkarpal said the Dewan is a public institution and one cannot use the excuse of a “private matter” to intrude into a public institution.
“He can do it in his own house but on Wednesday he acted publicly and his actions would be construed in that way,” he said.
“It is not a question that he takes leave to do a private matter. It obviously a lie and that further enhances the need to take disciplinary action against him,” he added.
Earlier, when revealing Jasmin’s career details, Ooi asked:
“How can an employee in a government-linked company which is nearing bankruptcy due to mismanagement be allowed to go out during work hours to tarnish the sanctity of the Dewan just for political reasons?” he asked.
He urged MAS to sack Jasmin for allegedly using his working hours to barge into the Dewan, and to rally outside the building.
“How can he be kept in a GLC which is funded by taxpayers’ money? If he wants to use his working time to commit trespass, he should resign from MAS so that the national airline does not have to suffer further losses,” said Ooi.
At about 4pm yesterday in the state assembly, Umno’s Pulau Betong assemblyperson Muhammad Farid Muhammad Saad proposed a motion to compel Rayer to apologise and retract the offensive words.
Farid proposed the motion as state Opposition Leader Jahara Hamid had already apologised over the “intrusion”.
However, he only managed to get eight assemblypersons to support his motion. A motion needs 10 supporters before it can be tabled for debate.
