Malay rights NGO Perkasa is expanding overseas and will open its first overseas branch in London on Saturday.

Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said today a "Perkasa UK and Europe" campaign will kick off with 253 Malay and bumiputera members, drawn from a cross section of government servants, private sector workers, businessmen and students, especially post-graduates.

"The Malay and bumiputera community in the United Kingdom and Europe also needs to be informed and be given the correct picture about current affairs in the country," Ibrahim said in a press statement today.

The UK and Europe chapter will be led by Kamal A Mohamad, a businessman whose wife lectures at the University of Essex, he added.

Ibrahim explained that he has been receiving requests to set up such a Perkasa branch about a year ago, as many followed the NGO's "nationalistic" fight in Malaysia with keen interest.

"Perkasa UK and Europe will become the fortress to defend against liberalism, pluralism and basic human rights that goes against religious and cultural values," Ibrahim said.

He expressed his excitement on this, saying a wider network would bring more sharing of ideas and expand Perkasa’s cause to promote the its image and the people's prosperity.
