The DAP-led Penang government has called for a heavier penalty against the group of men who trespassed into the state legislative assembly last Wednesday.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the existing two-year jail term was not enough and did not serve as a lesson for those involved.

He said the state government would propose two sections under the Penal Code - 121B which provides for life imprisonment and 124B which proposes a maximum jail term of 20 years upon conviction.

"We are saddened and disappointed with what has happened.

"At the same time we want tough action to be taken against the Umno hooligans who trespassed into the state legislative assembly so that they will not forget and it will not cross their mind to repeat it.

"We will suggest to the police for the attorney-general to consider those sections," he told a news conference.

Lim said he would write to the police to consider the proposal.

Last Wednesday, a group of 100 men comprising members of Umno and NGOs crashed through the main gate of the state legislative assembly to look for Seri Delima state assemblyman RSN Rayer who had used a derogatory word against Umno.
