In another bizarre twist to the Tuesday night incident , the organiser of the event where 150 DAP members were supposed to join BN made an appearance at a DAP press conference this afternoon.

First, Yusof Abdul Manaf told reporters that Deputy Minister Ahmad Maslan had "hijacked" the event and defeated its original purpose.

"The whole gimmick involving DAP and BN flags was ordered by the minister," he claimed.

However, after the press conference, Yusof, who declined to name his NGO, seemed to have a change of heart when quizzed by reporters further.

He then blamed MIC Wanita chief Mohana Muniandy, who was also present that night, for the confusion at the event.

Earlier, Yusof, who claims to be the deputy chair for the taxi drivers association in Teluk Intan, said his NGO did not invite the media and only wanted to give out goodies to voters in that area, who are mostly taxi drivers.

He also sidestepped questions on what he was doing at a DAP press conference if he was an Umno and BN supporter.

'They played us out'

Yusof said that the organisers had planned the event two weeks in advance but BN candidate Mah Siew Keong cancelled his appearance at the last minute, prompting them to consider inviting DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud instead.

“But at the last minute, the BN representatives came and joined the event. We wanted to show them that these grassroots here would take the goodies and still vote for DAP. Because they played us out (mainkan) us, so we play them out too,” he said.

“We the people of Teluk Intan are able to gather grassroots for them yet they want to call all the KL people to claim credit. We never invited the MIC lady (Mohana, left ). She just came,” he added.

He also blasted Mah for “going missing” from the constituency after the general election last year, while praising DAP’s late MP Seah Leong Peng as a good MP.

“He comes and meets us regularly. You can ask the people here,” he said.

He however refused to reveal if he would support DAP after this in the campaign.

The press conference was initially called to allow Shanti Subramaniam, one of the DAP members who supposedly joined BN that night, to explain that she never ceded her DAP membership and that she did not know she would be asked to change parties.

Former Teluk Intan MP M Manogaran said that the 46-year-old taxi driver was part of his campaign team during the 2008 general election.
