“If we read the statements and comments from the newspapers, some parties want the bill not to be tabled at all.
“But we continue. We made the amendments as we do not have the intention to jeopardise the constitutional monarchy system. We want to uphold it,” said Khaled in a press conference after the Bill was passed in the state assembly.
Instead, he said that those who opposed the bill did so because they didn’t know what they were saying.
“We continued to table the Bill because I found that the comments and views given to us were from those who did not know what they were talking about as they had their facts confused,” he said.
MB declines to comment on Dr M
According to Khaled, he had informed the Johor sultan regarding the amendment of the Bill and the ruler did not stop the state assembly to do so.
“His Majesty knows that his actions are on the advice of the menteri besar as stated in the Johor constitution,” he added.
Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia had carried front page reports for three consecutive days to object the controversial bill, which before allegedly gave the ruler executive power over the Johor Housing and Real Property Board formed under the bill.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak raised his concern over the bill, stressing that it must be in line with the constitution.
Even the former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today had expressed concern that Khaled will kowtow to the state sultan over this Bill.
When asked, Khaled refused to respond to Mahathir’s remark.
