Party director of strategy Rafizi Ramli ( left ) revealed today that despite handing the concession to a private company, the finance for the construction still comes from a government-owned development bank, rendering the whole privatisation exercise redundant.
Rafizi said the actual construction has been sub-contracted to a private company, which is a non-bumiputera construction company.
"If that is the case, the government could have opened up a tender process and (the company) could have bid for it directly," Rafizi told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He added that the entire privatisation exercise for six new UiTM campuses had seen the final concession cost shoot up to four times higher than the original cost.
"The UiTM privatisation exercise is proof how the name Malay and bumiputera is misused to enrich Umno cronies," Rafizi said.
He also stated his belief that private construction companies were awarded the sub-contracts in all the other five concessions that were built nationwide.
Malaysiakini is withholding the company’s name pending a response.
