PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has continued to hammer Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, this time bluntly asking that he resign.

"Khalid should not think he can hold on to the position of menteri besar forever as it is based on the mandate of the people and the party.

"In this regard, he has failed to gain the mandate from the grassroots in his own division. That is a clear sign that he should not continue to lead," he was quoted as saying in a Berita Harian report today.

Shamsul ( left ) was referring to Khalid's defeat at the hands of S Manikavasagam for the Kuala Selangor PKR division chief in the party polls.

However, Khalid  won the majority votes for the PKR deputy president race in that division but is still trailing Azmin Ali in the overall vote count.

Shamsul's call came despite PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim urging party leaders to observe the rules and conduct when commenting on the matter.

However, Anwar had also said the menteri besar position was not a personal ownership, which Shamsul said meant the position was not owned by Khalid.

Shamsul, who is also Bukit Katil MP, is among the four vice president candidates that have garnered the most vote in the party polls.

However, the final results is not expected to conclude until after August as several divisions will be holding a re-election due to various troubles in the first round of voting.

Khalid had said he wants a review of the election results in Kuala Selangor but the party's election committee has yet to indicate that there will be one.

He had said he will not resign as menteri besar even if he is defeated in the party polls, stating that he remains as an elected representative which is the pre-requisite for the top job.

Prior to this, Shamsul had claimed that there is already a consensus among Pakatan Rakyat leaders to have Khalid replaced as menteri besar.

However, PAS' Sekijang state assemblyperson Ahmad Yunus Hairi was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia today that the matter had yet to be discussed in the party.
