Selangor reps have offered mixed views on Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail being endorsed as the replacement for Khalid Ibrahim for the menteri besar post, with only DAP firmly backing the PKR-initiated move so far.

Berita Harian reported that Selangor DAP chairperson Tony Pua said the party would back PKR's bid to replace Khalid with Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president.

He, however, added that DAP was also fine with a second choice of PKR deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali taking over as menteri besar.

In a Sinar Harian report, Selangor DAP deputy secretary Ng Suee Lim affirmed that the party would back whichever leader chosen based on consensus by the Pakatan Rakyat supreme council.

However, Selangor PAS leader Iskandar Abdul Samad was quoted as saying that PAS was not ready for a change.

He said that PAS had not been officially informed and only heard about PKR's decision through the media.

"Selangor PAS disagrees... For now, we are of the opinion that the services of Khalid is still much needed to guide the state," said the Selangor exco member.

The move to replace Khalid with Wan Azizah, the wife of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, would be discussed at the Pakatan supreme council meeting today.

Meanwhile, Selangor opposition leader and BN state assemblyperson Shamsudin Lias told Berita Harian that Wan Azizah's appointment as MB won't solve the state's woes.

He claimed that the move was to satisfy Anwar's political longings.

"I am puzzled by Anwar because before this he really promoted Khalid as a capable leader.

“Suddenly, things have turned and he really wants to sideline him," he said.

Yesterday, Khalid said he was not slighted by the attempts to replace him but urged that the proper process be followed.

Previously, he had insisted that he wanted to serve out his second term, which would last until at least 2018.

Khalid was appointed as MB in 2008 and his term was renewed after a strong win for Pakatan in GE 13.
