The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) today found two more bodies of Bangladeshi construction workers buried at an MRT worksite in Kota Damansara.
Selangor FRD asst director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said the bodies of Mohamed Faruk Khan and Mohammad Alauddin Mollik were found at 1.35pm today.
"The two bodies were taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for post-mortem," he said when contacted by Bernama .
The body of another Bangladeshi worker, Mohammad Elahi Hossain, was found by the search team at 2.30am and was taken to the same hospital.
Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said in a statement this morning that search and rescue efforts for the trapped workers continued throughout the night and this morning after the 8.30pm accident yesterday.
A a 650-tonne span on the MRT guideway dislodged from its piers and fell to the ground .
The three who were working on the span were thus trapped under the concrete blocks.
MRT Corp chief executive officer Azhar Abdul Hamid, who later resigned over the incident, said his company and the authorities would take steps to ensure that the cause of the accident is determined quickly.
"No effort will be spared in getting to the bottom of this tragic incident. We will also not spare anyone whose actions are found to have caused or contributed to this accident," he said.
Initial investigations indicate that the cause of the incident may be localised to the particular span and other spans that have been erected are not affected.
"Immediate checks carried out revealed that there is no reason for members of the public to worry about the other spans that have been built," Azhar said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who expressed shock over the incident, called for a full investigation to be carried out immediately.
"All parties involved in construction must adhere to the guidelines set by our Department of Occupational Safety and Health and strictly observe guidelines for public safety and health at construction sites," he said.
