A coalition of 12 NGOs representing the people of Selangor today launched a campaign to defend Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim until his term in office ends.

After launching the campaign at a restaurant in Shah Alam, the coalition's leaders said they would take the message from the street to the palace in a peaceful manner until National Day, through programmes such as rallies and religious events.

They also condemned Pakatan Rakyat, which is seen as being the cause of the political crisis in the state.

One of the NGO leaders, Faisal Idris said the people of Selangor failed to understand the need to change Khalid.

"When there is the question, why retain Khalid, I, on the other hand, am asking, why change a good leader?

"PAS themselves have admitted that Khalid is a good leader," added the pro-tem chairperson of Gerakan Rakyat Arus Bawahan Selangor (Grabs).

Faisal also described PKR's "Kajang Move" as a "betrayal".

Other groups in the coalition include Persatuan Anak Selangor Menyokong Menteri Besar (Pasmeb), Persatuan Anak Bugis Selangor (Pabs) and Angkatan Rakyat Sedar (Aras).

Passmeb would be sending a memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to demand it to declare Khalid as graft-free.

Meanwhile, Grabs and the NGO Solidariti untuk Khalid Ibrahim led by Hazlan Shaffii Adil would be sending a memorandum supporting to the Alam Shah palace in Klang this evening.

They would also be holding prayers at the state mosque tomorrow to pray for the success of their campaign.

Selangor crisis today
