New Zealand national Natalie Lowrey was barred from entering Malaysia as a result of being blacklisted by the police force, her lawyer Farhana Halim said.

"She arrived by AirAsia QZ554 at at KLIA2 at 7.55pm, but Lowrey was stopped from entering Malaysia as she has been blacklisted by the police," Farhana told Malaysiakini when contacted last night.

Lowrey wasn't told why she was barred from entering Malaysia, Farhana ( right ) said, but it is believed to be related to her involvement in the ‘Shutdown Lynas’ protest held June 22, during which she was arrested and detained for five days.

"She's still at the Immigration section. They have not provided her with any food or water," Farhana said in a text message reply just after 11 last night.

The immigration was slated to deport her either last night or this morning, she said.

“While it's difficult to challenge the Immigration Act, at least Lowrey should be able to explain herself,” Farhana added.

The 42-year-old veteran activist, who is a permanent resident of Australia, planned to stay in Malaysia for three to four weeks to observe of the anti-Lynas environmental campaign, Himpunan Hijau secretary Bang Seet Ping said last night.

She planned to observe how the government penalises local environmental activists and she also intended to attend the re-mention trial of the 15 Himpunan Hijau protesters who have been charged with unlawful assembly and rioting.

"Lowrey was supposed to take another flight from KLIA2 to Kuantan tonight," Bang ( left ) said.

She criticised the government for deporting an innocent person while welcoming with open arms the rare earths processor Lynas, which is deemed to be hazardous.

"We are celebrating Merdeka today, but it's a shame that this has happened," Bang added.
