PKR and DAP must abide by the sultan's decree so that Pakatan Rakyat can focus on the people's welfare, said Selangor PAS today.

 

This follows a statement by the Selangor palace accusing PKR and DAP of being "insolent and defiant" for not adhering to the sultan's request for two nominations from each party for the post of menteri besar.

"Selangor PAS urges our partners to abide by his highness, the sultan's decree because we won't get anywhere fighting the royal institution.

"I am confident that this crisis and be resolved and we hope it will be resolved quickly.

"The longer this drags on, the more the people will suffer," said Selangor PAS secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman ( right ) in a statement.

Earlier today, the sultan's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said only PAS had complied with the sultan's request by submitting three names.

Both PKR and DAP had only submitted one name, which is that of PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"The Selangor sultan is deeply saddened by the action of DAP and PKR, which went against his highness' decree on Aug 27.

"The action of DAP and PKR reflects insolence towards the royal institution and is a defiant act (tindakan derhaka) against the sultan," he said.

Munir said majority support in the state assembly is not the only criteria for the sultan's consideration, although legal experts such as Abdul Aziz Bari disagreed .

The menteri besar issue has strained ties between PAS and its Pakatan allies.
