Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has urged the public to disregard "rumours" that a new menteri besar would be sworn into office on Friday.

He said the Selangor palace customarily gives ample notice in order to send invitations to those who should be present at the ceremony, and would not hold the ceremony in secret.

"I have no comment. When this is done, it has to follow certain protocols.

"Normally, Selangor’s tradition is for the palace to send written invitations to ask people to attend. It would give ample time and there is no need for speculation," Khalid told a press conference after the state executive council (exco) meeting today.

Speculation has been spreading since yesterday that a Selangor assemblyperson has been told to take his oath of office as menteri besar at Istana Alam Shah on Friday.

The Selangor palace has yet to comment on the matter.

Nevertheless, Khalid declined to comment on his likely successor, saying that it may confuse people.

Therefore, he said, he would leave it to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ( right ) to decide who would replace him.

"On the choice of menteri besar, we have been advised not to make any statements because it would be confusing. We have been advised to give space for the sultan through the palace’s office to conduct this is an orderly manner.

"Therefore, I think we should have faith in the wisdom of His Royal Highness, and have patience. I hope this matter can be resolved properly and in a way that prioritises the interests of the people of Selangor," Khalid said.
