Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa) president Phahrolrazi Mat Zawawi admitted there were voices calling for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's removal during the NGO's meeting on Aug 31 in Kota Bharu.

However, he clarified these were the personal opinion of certain PAS members and not PasMa's official stand.

"I don't deny this issue was raised by the participants.

"When they were making speeches, there were all kinds of suggestions and criticism as PasMa is the platform for Pakatan Rakyat supporters to voice their opinions and criticism.

"But we (PasMa) did not make a stand," he told Malaysiakini .

He was responding to PAS central committee member Nasrudin Hassan, who claimed that PasMa is plotting to topple Hadi as it considered the president to be "politically inept".

Nasrudin, in his Facebook post yesterday, said he was informed that in the meeting, a Johor PAS Youth leader, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, had challenged the PAS central committee, which has been at odds with Hadi, to oust the president before the muktamar (annual assembly) this week.

Phahrolrazi stressed that it is not PasMa's role to decide on toppling the leaders of any party, because that is up to party delegates.

"Like the PAS president or deputy president and central committee members, the ones who decide on who is removed or installed are the delegates, not PasMa or Pakatan Rakyat supporters," he said.

"So that allegation does not arise," he said.

'Heed voice of Pakatan supporters'

Meanwhile, Phahrolrazi also criticised Terengganu PAS' order for their members not to join PasMa.

"I think that is a big mistake. Here we have a platform for Pakatan supporters.

"We focus on supporters. PasMa is the bridge between parties and supporters," he said.

He said that he is "perplexed" by party leaders who do not want to listen to the grouses of Pakatan supporters.

"By right they should attend and listen to what the supporters want to say, because these supporters determine Pakatan's win in the elections," he added.

Meanwhile, when contacted by Malaysiakini , Sheikh Umar refused to confirmed whether he had proposed to the PAS central committee member to topple Hadi.

He said he respected what had been said by Nasrudin and believed that he had no ill intention to expose the discussions during the meeting.

Instead he said that PasMa had no intention to run down any PAS leaders and was aimed at strengthening Pakatan, thus what was discussed during the meeting was not the main issue.

He urged PAS to understand that the real threat to the Islamic party should be Umno and BN and there was no reason to fear PasMa.
