Delegate urging PAS to reject MB's post booed

Sany Hamzan, a delegate representing Selangor PAS Youth, was booed down by observers after he urged the party to reject the menteri besar post during the 60th muktamar today.

 

He had urged delegates to ensure that PAS keeps its pledge for the top post to be held by PKR but his call received lukewarm response when he asked them if they agreed with him.

 

However, observers were less diplomatic, waving him down and shouted for him to get off podium.

 

Others poked fun at his high-pitched voice and gave him the thumbs down.

 

Responding to this, Sany ( above ) said: "I don't care, you can reject my speech but we must keep our promise."

Sany was also the sole leader who sought to divert criticism away from PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who has taken much heat today, and instead shone the spotlight on party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

 

Sany noted that Hadi had been absent from several Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meetings, urging that he turns up in future.

 

"We want whoever is in charge of the president's diary, please look into it properly.

 

"We want our president to be around when decisions are made in Pakatan, be it small or big," he told delegates in Batu Pahat, Johor.

 

The Pakatan leadership council, attended by PAS representatives, had initially endorsed a new Selangor menteri besar but Hadi, who was not at the meeting, later overturned this.

 

The matter later escalated over disagreements on who should be the new menteri besar candidate as DAP and PKR backed Wan Azizah Wan Ismail while Hadi refused to do so.

 

Hadi has been accused of rejecting Wan Azizah, who is PKR president, because of her gender, an allegation he denies.

Muslimat delegate Norhayati Bidin (left) also urged the PAS leadership to come clean on whether it will accept the menteri besar post if granted by the Selangor sultan.

 

"Are we to keep our promise to Pakatan or are we to simply listen to the sultan?" she said.

 

However, Mokthar Senik who presented the Ulama wing differed, stressing that the party should accept the sultan's decision, regardless if his highness chooses PAS or PKR.

 

He also slammed fellow delegates who had claimed the clerics of wanting to join hands with Umno.

 

The trio had touched on the Selangor menteri besar crisis and the resulting internal strife in PAS despite the party's deputy spiritual leader Haron Din earlier having imposed a gag order on the matter.

 

Haron had said that the matter will be addressed during the winding up tomorrow and did not want the situation to escalate.
