The swearing-in of the new executive council (exco) members today has failed to put an end to the Selangor political dispute.

Although secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the reduction of PAS’ exco quota from three to four is a " sacrifice " it had made, Selangor PAS now says the party never agreed to it.

This goes against Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's claim that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Mohamad Sabu and Mustafa gave the nod to the new exco arrangement.

"Selangor PAS denies claims that the party agreed to have the number of exco representatives reduced from four to three.

"We were also informed by the central leadership that it, too, never agreed to this reduction," state PAS secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman (right) said in a statement late today.

Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Ab Samad and Sijangkang assemblyperson Dr Yunus Hairi were retained on the exco and were joined by Taman Templer assemblyperson Mohd Zaidy Abdul Talib.

Halimah Ali and Sallehen Mukhyi, who had served in the previous administration, were dropped.

 

"We feel that the removal of Halimah and Sallehen who had performed excellently is without basis. This is not a good start," he said.

Even so, he said, PAS will back the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor for the sake of "stability" in the state.

The previous four PAS exco members had remained in the government to ensure the government didn't collapse after the MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim sacked PKR and DAP members from the executive council.  

"As such, PAS will continue to defend this government," he said.
