A DAP parliamentarian has condemned the “cruel”, “heartless” and “sexist” remarks against the party’s new female recruits.

The party's national legal bureau chairperson Gobind Singh Deo said the attacks on Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, Young Syefura Othman and Jamila Rahim for their association with the DAP are "an insult to all women".

"I think these attacks are disgraceful and an insult to women in general.

"It is totally unacceptable and must be condemned to the hilt," Gobind ( right ) said in a statement late yesterday.

Among the attacks, he said, includes a commentary published by Free Malaysia Today titled 'DAP dan politik onani' (DAP and masturbation politics).

This article alleges that the DAP is using Dyana, Syefura, and Jamila to create 'excitement' among young Malays towards the party.

Jamila, an author better known by her pen name Melati, submitted her membership form to join DAP this week.

Other scathing comments were published in pro-Umno blog MyKMU.net and NGO Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma)'s mouthpiece Ismaweb .

MyKMU had on Sept 30 published a commentary with the headline 'Melati, lebih baik jadi pelacur dari sertai DAP' (Melati, it is better to be a prostitute than join DAP).

The article stated, "The truth is, it is better to be a prostitute who sells themselves to earn a living, than those who wear a tudung and purdah selling themselves to the DAP for worldly comforts to the point of weakening Islam."

She did nothing to warrant attacks

The article was referring to the fact that Melati is an observant Muslim, who chooses to wear the purdah or veil to cover most of her face.

She had also authored the novel Pelacur Kelas Pertama (High Class Prostitute) which deals with the issues of prostitution and domestic abuse.

Gobind said that Melati ( left ) has done nothing to warrant such attacks, and only happens to be "a young Malay Muslim who wears a purdah and who has her own political thoughts and choices".

"We (DAP) must express our deep disappointment over the language and methaphors used in these attacks," Gobind said.

The Puchong MP lodged a report today at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) against the two commentaries, which the young DAP women said had tarnished their image.

“I believe the statements made against them is a crime under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“I hope action will be taken as soon as possible,” said Gobind.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 is classified as the improper use of network facilities or network services, and such.
