Latheefa: Umno's police report 'mischievous'

PKR lawyer Latheefa Koya reiterated that the police report lodged by Kinabatangan Umno Youth against her yesterday for tweeting is “mischievous”.

 

“I find the police report lodged is not only false but mischievously orchestrated by these Umno members in order to intimidate and also to pressure the police to take action even though there is no offence committed," said Latheefa.

 

The Umno Youth alleged in their report that Latheefa had made a ‘death threat’ towards Bung Mokhtar (right) .

 

“I wish to state, that at no point have I ever made such a threat to Bung Mukhtar and my tweet cannot be construed as a death threat by any stretch of imagination.”

 

Latheefa also said that she will take legal proceedings against the ‘death threat’ accusers if they continue acting against her.

 

“I will not hesitate to commence legal action against any quarter that makes further false allegations that I had issued a death threat,” she said in a statement today. 

 

The report by Umno Youth was made after Bung said that he was giving 24 hours for Latheefa to apologise to him over the alleged “death threat”.

Latheefa, one of Lawyers for Liberty co-founders, got herself into hot soup when she tweeted "before we abolish the Sedition Act, it is better that "we eliminate that MP Kebinatangan first" in response to Bung's call to the government to use the Sedition Act on anti-sedition campaigners.

 

The tweet was however later deleted.

 

This later escalated into tweet for tweet exchanges and one tweeter asked Bung if Latheefa’s posting was a “death threat”, after which Bung demanded an apology from the the lawyer.
