The Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) has submitted to the government a request from express bus operators to raise bus fares by up to 30 percent.

Its chairperson, Syed Hamid Albar, said the request was reasonable and considered urgent due to rising costs, adding that Spad had made its recommendations.

“I hope the government will make a decision soon and the decision should not burden the people and lead to other problems,” he told reporters after launching a rebranding ceremony by Mutiara express bus in Kota Baru today.

Syed Hamid said Spad was just waiting for the final decision from the government to make the announcement to express bus operators.

He also said that East Coast express bus operators operating at Hentian Putra Kuala Lumpur had been instructed to move to the Integrated South-Bandar Tasik Selatan (TBS) Transport Terminal, effective Dec 1.

He said TBS had sufficient capacity to meet the needs of the number of East Coast buses and had a range of facilities in providing comfort to consumers.
