An apologetic Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said he is unable to help his own constituents as he, too, is trapped in his own home by the country's worst floods in decades.
In a statement on Facebook , the Pasir Pekan state assemblyperson apologised for not being able to personally hand out aid to his constituents.
"I apologise to the rakyat, particularly the people in my state constituency, as I am facing difficulty going out to distribute aid as I am also trapped in the water which has started to enter my house," he said on his Facebook page.
Ahmad said the Kelantan government had already instructed all agencies to assist flood victims wherever they are.
In addition, the menteri besar implored the public to hold prayers and urged the religious authorities to facilitate this.
"I call on the leadership and people to hold prayers in every mosque beginning today, to pray for Allah to protect the people of Kelantan and Malaysians in general from the floods," he added.
Ahmad said he had attended a briefing on the floods with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday morning, and thanked the latter for ordering more assets to assist with the flood situation.
He also thanked Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali for donating RM1 million to the state to help with the flood relief.
Later in the afternoon, Ahmad Yakob managed to hold a press conference to announce that the planned state sitting on hudud has been postponed in view of the flood crisis.
