In a rare display of camaraderie, a DAP lawmaker has offered to work with MCA president Liow Tiong Lai.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng tweeted that he is prepared to join Liow in making a police report against Umno minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for allegedly "falsifying" a joint media statement.

He also tagged Liow, Ismail and inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar in his tweet.  

This afternoon, the MCA president issued a prompt denial when Ismail uploaded a purported joint statement with Liow on Facebook to clarify his controversial remark about Chinese traders.

Following the MCA president's denial, the agriculture and agro-based industries minister retracted the posting.

'This is a serious offence '

Speaking to Malaysiakini , Lim, who is a lawyer, described this as a serious offence which should be investigated under Section 464 and 471 of the Penal Code for making false or forged documents.

Furthermore, he said that since the purported statement involved two federal ministers, the matter cannot be ignored.

"If Liow has denied (having any knowledge of the statement), the rightful thing for him to do is to ask for an investigation. He should lodge a police report.

"I volunteer my service bona fide (free of charge) to accompany him to any police station in order to get to the bottom of this," he added.

On the same note, Lim called on the police chief, whom he said was fond of tweeting instructions to his officers to launch investigations, to respond to this issue.

"I have tagged him (Khalid) in my tweet, so I want him to react immediately. He must show that he is an IGP for all Malaysians," he said.

Just stop being PAS' minion, MCA tells DAP

MCA vice president Chew Mei Fun, however, wants DAP to focus its efforts "standing up" to PAS instead.

Chew said DAP acts like a "minion" to PAS, which disregards DAP's opposition to PAS' hudud ambitions.

She said while DAP gleefully tries to shame MCA on the Ismail Sabri issue, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng "chose to chicken out" of facing PAS counterpart Mustafa Ali to debate hudud implementation.

"Why is Lim so afraid of PAS? There should be a limit in being a minion.

"DAP may not be at the same side of the political divide with MCA, but at the very least, it should have the political morale to a certain extent to stand up to PAS," she said in a statement.
