Imprisoned Anwar Ibrahim’s fourth child Nurul Ilham today stepped up with a short speech at a book launch event organised by DAP, as his children continue to intensify the campaign to secure their father's release.

Nurul Ilham was initially identified by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang as Nurul Nuha, Anwar’s second daughter, who is the face of the 'March 2 Freedom' campaign.

"Actually, my name is Nurul Ilham. I am the fourth child of six," she said.

In her short speech Nurul Ilham reminded the audience that Anwar has been in the Sungai Buloh prison for six days after being convicted of sodomy for the second time.

She then promoted the ‘March 2 Freedom’ postcards to a crowd of more than 100 people, asking them to sign the postcards and send it to Anwar as a show of support.

She attended the soft launch of the book 'Tragic Orphans' , about the plight of Malaysian Indians brought to Malay as indentured labour, written by former Australian diplomat to Malaysia Carl Vadivella Belle.

 

"His grandkids were about the same age as we were when he went to prison the first time in 1999," she said.

 

She also stressed that the struggle of the family is not about Anwar alone, but for all the people who are being marginalised and treated unfairly in the country.

The 'March 2 Freedom' was launched by Nurul Ilham's sister Nurul Nuha on Feb 11, prompting speculation that Nurul Nuha will contest the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat.

The seat will fall vacant 14 days after the conviction on Feb 10, if Anwar does not seek and secure a royal pardon.

March 2 Freedom is a campaign to secure Anwar's freedom by placing local and international pressure on the government.
