Exactly a week after Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had Anwar Ibrahim convicted, the pair meet again in another court battle.

This morning, the opposition leader, who is serving a five-year prison sentence, was cross-examined by Shafee at the Kuala Lumpur High Court and it was apparent that there was no love lost between the two.

Anwar took subtle jabs at the Umno-linked veteran lawyer while answering the latter's questions.

Shafee ( right ), on the other hand, told Anwar "not to play the fool" with the court with his answers.

Anwar also described one of Shafee's questions as "absurd" and claimed that several of the latter's questions were "politically motivated".

Shafee is the lead defence counsel for Foreign Minister Anifah Aman in Anwar's RM100 million defamation suit against him.

The lawyer has also launched a series of attacks against Anwar since the decision of the Sodomy II trial last week, drawing criticism from the legal fraternity.

Below is an excerpt of Anwar and Shafee's exchange in court today:

Shafee: I would like to remind (Anwar) that there is a microphone in front of you, and everything you say will be recorded by the court. Should you not understand my questions, you can seek clarification. Is that clear?

Anwar: Very clear, and also quite unnecessary.

Shafee: How well do you know Ishak Ismail?

Anwar: Well, he's from Penang, like you are. He approached me when I was Umno division chief there in Permatang Pauh, just like you did.

Shafee: Answer the question directly. Do not play the fool with the court.

Anwar: Yes, and the same to you.

Shafee seemed to irk Anwar by repeatedly asking the same questions, with Anwar stressing several times that he had already answered the said questions before.

Shafee then made a remark about Anwar's "Sept 16 ambitions", which prompted the latter to accuse Shafee of putting forth "politically motivated questions".
