Police chose not to endorse a permit application for music concert 'Thirst 2015: We Are All Stardust' after objections from local community, Serdang district police chief Razimi Ahmad said.

The concert was to take place at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) Saturday, but organiser Future Sound Asia was told its permit was revoked the day before.

"On April 24, police told the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) it will not support the permit after receiving information and objections on April 23, from the local community and the assemblyperson’s office on the concert," he said in a statement.

MIECC is in the Serdang parliamentary constituency, held by DAP MP Ong Kian Ming and the Seri Kembangan state constituency held by DAP’s Ean Yong Hian Wah.

"We took into consideration the community’s safety, and to avoid any untoward incidents from recurring," he added.

Razimi did not specify what the untoward incidents were, however, another concert, the Future Music Festival was last year cancelled after six people died of drug overdose.

He said police initially had no objections to the permit when it was consulted by MPSJ on March 25.

However, MPSJ rejected the organiser’s application on April 6.

The council gave a conditional approval for the permit on April 22, he said, but police decided not to back the permit this time after "receiving intelligence information" on the concert.

Yesterday, parliamentarian Ong ( right ) urged police to clarify why it objected the concert after giving an all clear on March 25.

He said MPSJ was forced to revoke the permit after police did not give approval.

MPSJ’s issued a conditional permit which among others required organisers to ensure that no Muslims or those under 18 are allowed to attend the concert, he said.
