Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's application to strike out portions of Malaysiakini 's defence in his suit against the portal has been fixed for June 26.

The premier is suing the portal for publishing two compilations of readers' comments on the Terengganu menteri besar imbroglio

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur will hear arguments on the interlocutory matter to striking out Malaysiakini 's defence.

"It is fixed for 9am on June 26," Najib's lawyer Mohd Hafarizam Harun said today.

The date was also confirmed by Malaysiakini 's lawyer, Ashok Kandiah ( left ). The court had sent the letters signed by KL High Court deputy registrar Norfauzini Mohd Nordin, to the lawyers, who received them today.

It is understood that Najib and Abdul Rauf Yusof are seeking to strike out approximately 50 paragraphs from Malaysiakini 's defence.

The application will be heard before Justice Kamaludin Md Said.

Besides the suit against Malaysiakini, Najib had also filed suits against DAP national publicity secretary and Petaling Jaya Utara MP, Tony Pua and PAS mouthpiece Harakah on their comments or article on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd issue.

Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor also filed another suit against PKR secretary-general and vice-president, Rafizi Ramli for defamation in a quip that the money for oil subsidies was used to purchase jewellery for Rosmah.

Readers' comments

Najib, along with Umno executive secretary Abd Rauf, had filed the suit against Malaysiakini in the middle of last year.

The suit is on comments of readers on two reports published by the news portal about the uncertainty over the Terengganu menteri besar post after the current menteri besar, Ahmad Said, had been asked to vacate his post.

The two articles are titled ‘A case of the PM reaping what it sows’ and ‘How much will Najib spend to keep Terengganu?’.

In March this year, Najib filed his application to strike out certain portions of Malaysiakini 's defence.
