Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali today pleaded to the media to stop labelling him or his group in a negative way.

In a press conference, he urged the media to be fair to him, and not to repeatedly describe Perkasa and him as " katak " (frog), "ultra-Malay", "racist" and "extremist".

"Bersih is fierce, they have done many things (yet without being labelled). There's not even a single demonstration held by Perkasa, but it was labelled as extremist," said Ibrahim who heads the Malay right wing NGO.

"There were other party-hoppers, why not label them as well. Only me being labelled as frog," he said, adding that he would accept such a nickname if the media had treated the others the same way.

Ibrahim named PKR's former secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution ( photo ), who had joined Umno, Pas and PKR, as an example.

Ibrahim had contested in the general elections under BN-Umno flags in 1986, but joined Semangat 46. He contested Pasir Mas under Pas's ticket in 2008 election but later formed Perkasa.

'PKR also fierce and extreme'

He wanted the media to start labelling PKR as a "fierce and extreme" party in the same magnitude as Perkasa.

The media and people tend to ignore PKR and its supporters' behaviour during the Permatang Pauh by-election, he added.

"With much regret, Perkasa is labelling PKR fierce and extremist," he said, referring to the chaos which erupted during yesterday's polls where a police officer was injured and a police vehicle vandalised.

Ibrahim further claimed that Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali's "lackey remark" on Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar had also stimulated PKR's supporters to act wildly.

"It all start from there," he said, adding that Azmin should apologise to the IGP in person.

He said Azmin has became so arrogant ever since he was appointed as menteri besar who thinks he is now at the same level as PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is now serving a five-year jail sentence after his conviction for sodomy.

He urged the government to charge Azmin over the ‘lackey’ remark when it has sufficient evidence.

Failing to do so, he said, would lead to Azmin being seen as some kind of hero, and he will be repeating his behaviour.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim also claimed himself to be a the victim of jealousy by his former colleagues in Umno, where the latter had instigated then-party president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to remove him.

Given a chance, he said,  he can do better than Abdullah, at least he would not fall asleep during a meeting.

“If someone like Pak Lah can be prime minister and someone like Anwar Ibrahim can be deputy prime minister...

“Pak Lah and Anwar were graduates from Universiti Malaya, while he was a graduate of UiTM.

“It’s not that I can outshine Pak Lah as PM. But I wasn’t given the chance.

“If Anwar were given the opprtunity, why not me? I can be better than Anwar,”he said, adding that he has integrity, a sole criterion a good leader should have.

“I am the victim of jealousy... People were jealous of me for being capable,” he said.

“They went to instigate Pak Lah, and he removed me from the division (Umno) chief post I was holding,” he said.

He had done nothing wrong, not even committed bigamy abroad, he said.
