The police are currently looking for two men, suspected to be organisers of an "anarchist group" that they say was present at the anti-goods and services tax (GST) protest on May 1.

"We are releasing these pictures and hoping that members of the public can help us find these men," Dang Wangi district police chief Zainol Samah said at a press conference today.

One of the men has been identified as Mohd Afiq bin Ayob, 27, nicknamed Markio, while the other has only been identified by his alias, Ocha ( photo ).

On May 1, about 20,000 protesters assembled in downtown Kuala Lumpur in a march calling for the abolition of the GST, which was implemented on April 1.

A group of roughly 30 people police claim are anarchists of also turned up at the protest, allegedly causing disturbances among the protesters and in the surrounding area by vandalising and throwing rocks and smoke bombs.

Zainol said the police arrested one of the men in Shah Alam a day after the anti-GST protest.

This was after police found a medical certificate in a bag abandoned in front of the OCBC Bank along Jalan Tun Perak, which they used to track down the youth.

They also found other items in the bag, including a gas mask, some smoke bombs, a bottle of spray paint and purported anarchist ideology leaflets, Zainol said.

In their interrogation of the man arrested, the police gathered information about the other two suspected anarchists that they are now trying to track down.
