The Johor football team's Facebook page has come out in defence of Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

In a Facebook post today, the team quoted four Johoreans of different races telling Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz to recant his criticisms against the prince.

One Mohd Roy Fadzli Jamil was quoted stating that Nazri had no right to prevent the prince from speaking his mind, even on political matters.

This similar theme was repeated by the three other persons being quoted.

Meanwhile, in an earlier video posting where the Tunku Ismail apparently gestured at his detractors to "bring it on", netizens left thousands of comments that overwhelmingly voiced support for the crown prince and condemnation for Nazri.

As of 7pm today, the count was just over 2,900 comments.

“Before this his son beaten up a security guard, now the father wants to beat up a prince. Johoreans let’s rise up and fight this person who is trampling on the sultan’s dignity! Come Johoreans regardless of political persuasion, we need to unite! For Johor!” said one netizen Frank Lucas.

The Johor football team's Facebook page has often been seen as the official voice for the prince, who is the Johor Football Association president.

On June 5, the same Facebook page had carried a post quoting Tunku Ismail hitting out at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who had skipped a dialogue with NGOs on the same day.

Although nearly all Umno leaders were publicly silent on the matter, Nazri ( photo ) told a press conference on Friday that Tunku Ismail, and all royals, should stay out of politics .

In a move that has been widely interpreted as a tit-for-tat, the Johor football team's Facebook page released the 17-second clip featuring Tunku Ismail gesturing.

Apart from voicing support for the crown price in their comments on the video, netizens have also shared the clip over 7,000 times on Facebook.
