Thailand hands over trafficking kingpins to M'sia

The Thai authorities have handed over several kingpins of human trafficking syndicates to Malaysia, said Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) were now compiling detailed information on human trafficking cases and investigating the masterminds concerned before prosecuting them.

“We thank Thailand for their assistance to enter their territory to find the parties who were involved as masterminds or kingpins in human traffickings,” he said.

He said this to reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the French ambassador to Malaysia Cristophe Penot at the Home Minister’s office in Putrajaya today.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said police had identified ‘Yassin’ who was believed to be an agent in human trafficking cases in Wang Kelian, Perlis.

But, he said, the suspect had escaped to Thailand and PDRM would get the cooperation of the Thai authorities to repatriate him to Malaysia to be charged.

At the end of May, the nation was rocked with the discovery of 139 graves at 28 transit camps by the authorities, which were constructed by the human trafficking syndicates along the Malaysia-Thailand border, at Wang Kelian, Perlis.
