Bagan Umno division head Shaik Hussein Mydin has been detained by the police under the Sedition Act for his remarks against Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

When contacted about 6pm today, Shaik Hussein said he was on the way to Bukit Aman, escorted by two policemen from Penang.

"I was told that I am detained under the Sedition Act. I criticised the IGP and he could not take it," Shaik told Malaysiakini .

"I said (in a telephone chat) that police were at fault for the Low Yat brawl as they released one of the boys involved in the fight," he said.

"Police should detain everyone involved and not just one boy," Shaik added.

Shaik said he has engaged a lawyer to defend him but was uncertain of how long he would be held in Bukit Aman.

"I am fed-up with the matter but not afraid. This is part and parcel of my struggle," he declared.

Shaik confirmed that he was detained by police personnel at 1.45pm outside the Seberang Prai police station, just as he was about to address the press.

Earlier today, Khalid had told reporters that police were looking to question a "division head" of a political party. He did not name the person.
