The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has blocked four websites for spreading information on Bersih.

According to Bernama , this was confirmed by Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.

Yesterday, MCMC warned that it would block access to websites that promoted the rally or encouraged people to join Bersih 4.

The commission said this included news portals as well.

Salleh Said Keruak said the four websites were http://bersih.org, http://globalbersih.org, http://www.bersih.org and http://www.globalbersih.org.

"Thus far I was told four sites have been blocked," he told Bernama when contacted here today.

The MCMC in its statement yesterday stated that it would block any website or news portal found to be promoting, disseminating information, and encouraging the public to participate in the illegal rally, as such action could be detrimental to the country.

Salleh said the MCMC was in the midst of monitoring news portals to ensure that they would not commit the same offence.

"So far, no news portal was found to be promoting the rally, just more on reporting, so there was no violation of law...there's no reason for news portal operators to be worried," he said.
