In an interesting turn of events, Gabungan NGO-NGO Malaysia chairperson Jamal Md Yunos is now inviting the Chinese and Indians to take part in the Sept 16 'red shirt' rally called 'Perhimpunan Rakyat Bersatu'.

"This is a Malay rally and we are inviting Chinese and Indians who share the same understanding and thoughts to join us.

"They are the ones who helped maintain the voice of the people in the last general elections," Jamal, who is the spokesperson for the rally, said when met at the Dang Wangi police station today.

However, Jamal stressed, the participants are not allowed to wear yellow T-shirts.

"If you want to participate, do not wear yellow," he said curtly before proceeding to give his statement to the police.

Jamal came with 10 Malay and Muslim NGOs that were called to the Dang Wangi police station in connection with the planned rally.

He arrived about 11am and is expected to take an hour or more to give his statement.

Pesaka rep meets police, too

Yesterday, Jamal in a press conference claimed that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was colonised by the opposition to participate in the Bersih 4 rally two weeks ago.

The 'red shirt' rally is said to be organised by Pesaka, a silat (Malay martial arts) group, but it has yet to make any official statement on the rally.

Meanwhile, Pesaka secretary-general Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, when met after the two-hour meeting, said he was also called in to give information on the rally to the police.

He described his meeting with Dang Wangi OCPD ACP Zainol Samah as good.
