It is fully possible for Pakatan Harapan and Pakatan Rakyat to co-exist at the same time, said PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Kota Bharu MP cited the alliances formed by Umno splinter group Semangat 46 in 1990 as an example of how this could work.

He was referring to the S46 alliance with PAS in Kelantan known as Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah, and the S46 alliance with DAP, PBS and PRM dubbed Gagasan Rakyat.

"This can happen now. One is Pakatan Harapan and the other is Pakatan (Rakyat) with PAS and PKR.

"We are still together. Without us there is no (Selangor) government after the previous menteri besar (Khalid Ibrahim) sacked all DAP (and PKR exco members)," he told reporters outside Parliament today.

Likewise he said, DAP too needs PKR as an ally.

"Look at Penang. Without PKR can DAP rule Penang?" he asked.

Pakatan Rakyat was officially dissolved after DAP and PAS had cut ties with each other.

PKR and DAP then teamed up with PAS splinter group Amanah to form Pakatan Harapan.

PAS however insists that its alliance with PKR means that Pakatan Rakyat is still alive.
