Former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim has denied betraying his constituents by voting for the 2016 Budget last night.

"My constituents voted for me to do the right thing. So, I am doing the right thing from my perspective," said the independent lawmaker when met at the Parliament lobby today.

"I can meet my constituents and tell them this is what I feel is right.

"I am not doing things on behalf of other people, I am doing things on behalf of them (his constituents)," added Khalid, who won the Bandar Tun Razak seat in 2013 under a PKR ticket.

The 2016 Budget was passed in its second reading, or policy stage, in the Dewan Rakyat with 128 votes in favour and 74 against. Seven PAS MPs abstained from voting.

Khalid also said there was a need for the budget to be pushed through in the House, as there are a lot of development exercises to be carried out by the government.

"I do not think we are going to play around with the budget," he added.

"Even if we feel there is something (that needs) to be corrected, we don't have to correct the whole Budget," he said.

According to the independent lawmaker who was sacked from PKR, he questioned the need for privatisation in his Budget debate.

"I also pointed out there was a need to review the previous privatisation (contracts), so we can correct the problems we are facing now as concessionaires are reaping huge profits out of these concession,” he added.
