PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said the police were only in their initial stages of inquiry into allegations linked to her recent meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram.

Nurul Izzah was summoned to have her statement recorded at Bukit Aman today but she said the police did not inform her on whether she was being investigated under any particular section of the law.

"They did not inform me whether I was being investigated under any particular section.

"We have given our full cooperation to the police. We also hope that our explanations today will clear the air for all parties, including the police, although most of the information is already out in the public domain," said Nurul Izzah, who was accompanied by her lawyer R Sivarasa.

She also said it appears that the police were only trying to understand what went on at the Nov 9 dinner in Manila .

Sivarasa also said police were trying to establish how the meeting took place and how the photograph was taken.

"The police said this is only a police inquiry paper. In other words they're saying its not a formal investigation.

"They're just in process to verify facts and understand the situation," said the Subang MP.

He also added that provisions under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) should not be applicable in this case.

On Sunday, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar had said Nurul Izzah could be investigated under Sosma and Section 124 of the Penal Code for treason.

Federal CID deputy director (Investigation and Law) Datuk Amar Singh, however, today confirmed that Nurul Izzah is being investigated under Section 124(L) of the Penal Code for attempting to commit sabotage.
