Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin should not complain about party tradition being broken, as he broke it first, said vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"If you want to follow tradition, you won't hold an assembly outside of the annual general assembly.

"The tradition is to speak inside the assembly.

"This (Muhyiddin's assembly) was done outside tradition, but then he wants to question tradition. That's not fair to the president," Zahid said at a press conference in the Putra World Trade Centre today.

Muhyiddin had spoken at a rally on Monday, after the Umno supreme council decided that he would not officiate at the party wings' assembly.

Last night it was decided that Muhyiddin would not be speaking at the AGM at all, with only Najib giving a winding-up speech.

Zahid rubbished any notions that this was unfair, especially after Najib had taken potshots at Muhyiddin in his speech earlier.

"There's no space (for Muhyiddin to speak) in the assembly. The space is used. This is for the prime minister to answer, not for that person to answer," the Umno vice-president said.

His fellow vice-president, Hishammuddin Hussein, meanwhile, said while some people may have been upset over the supreme council's decision, things seem to have improved.

"I see the anger from last night has subsided," Hishammuddin said.

Hishammuddin and Zahid also denied that the other Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal was sidelined, and said he was welcome to join them at their press conferences.

"There's a chair for him," Hishammuddin said.

Investigation paper

Muhyiddin and Shafie were both sidelined within Umno after being axed from the cabinet for criticising the 1MDB affair.

Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said an investigation paper on Muhyiddin has been sent to the party's disciplinary committee.

"I have already sent it. (The investigation paper has) been made, so we wait for a while," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Umno general assembly today.
