Dr M: There is a wish to arrest me

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad believes there are those who wish to see him behind bars.

"The new publicity chief suggests I am doing this because I want to be arrested. That is as clear as a warning can be, of the wish to arrest me," Mahathir wrote in his blog today.

This was in reference to remarks by Umno information chief Annuar Musa, who said Mahathir was being seditious to incite the authorities to act against him.

The Ketereh MP said the former prime minister would do this to gain support in his fight against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Following Annuar's remarks, police reports have been lodged against Mahathir's postings in his blog, and inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said investigations are underway.

Despite being accused of making allegedly seditious remarks, Mahathir in his latest entry did not hold back his punches against Najib's administration.

"The country is now one of the 10 most corrupt countries, but don’t say anything about 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion if you wish to remain free," the former PM wrote.

He also accused Najib of promoting corruption through a "cash is king" creed.

Mahathir also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate whether the prime minister was living beyond his means, and for the Inland Revenue Board to investigate the RM2.6 billion donation.

Najib has denied any wrongdoing in regard to the donation, and has brushed off allegations that he misused public funds as a conspiracy to topple him.
