PKR: Claims that Azmin breached agreement with DAP inaccurate

PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar said claims that the party's deputy president breached an agreement with DAP over the Sarawak election were not accurate.

"The Malaysiakini report yesterday regarding Deputy President Azmin Ali allegedly reneging on the seat negotiations agreement in Sarawak is inaccurate," she said in a statement today.

Malaysiakini had yesterday quoted DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as claiming that Azmin had reneged on his word.

"On April 7, both PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and I signed an agreement on the seat negotiations.

"He shouldn't renege on the agreement, this might seem to others as though (you are) eating your own words," Lim was quoted as saying.

Nurul Izzah, who is also PKR national election director, said there were facts that needed to be corrected.

"Azmin only signed the list on April 7, 2016 'in principle' as did the representative of DAP, indicating it was not finalised.

"After that, there was another meeting and further discussions continued to take place. The party then entrusted Azmin to resolve issues with our state leaders in Sarawak.

"Further communications continued with DAP until the night before nomination day, but were unfortunately not successful.

"Therefore, there should be no further discussions of reneging on an agreement per se," she said.

She noted that the recent flurry of exchanges between leaders of Pakatan Harapan on the issue had taken the focus off defeating BN in Sarawak.

"I echo (PKR de facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim's appeal for calm on all sides and (DAP supremo) Lim Kit Siang's request for us move on.

"Our message to the voters must be clear - there is only one enemy - BN.

"There is only one issue - BN must be rejected - for the sake of the future and welfare of the people of Sarawak. Let us work together on that from now on," said Nurul Izzah.

She added that existing fissures will be resolved internally after the Sarawak state election on May 7.
