Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will not settle for anything less than a huge victory in the Sarawak state election.

"We want to win and do so with distinction," he is quoted as saying by Bernama today.

Therefore, Zahid called on the BN machinery not to leave any stone unturned in its efforts to woo voters during the final hours of campaigning.

Those responsible for logistics must work hard to facilitate a huge BN turnout at the polling centres

The deputy prime minister said this during his visit to the Maling longhouse in Sungai Aup in Sibu.

Also present was BN direct candidate for the Bawang Assan seat Wong Soon Koh.

'More funds for development'

Zahid stressed the need for BN to stay in power by winning as many constituencies as possible in the 82-seat state assembly.

"With more BN representatives, this will translate into more funds or budgets available for development purposes," he said.

He also advised BN component party members and those from BN-friendly partners to be on the same page to ensure victory of BN candidates.

This comes amid claims that there are attempts in sabotaging one another.

As for Wong, the deputy prime minister said, although he was the oldest BN candidate, Wong was still healthy, ready and capable of rendering services to the people and the state.

At the function, Zahid announced a government grant of RM100,000 for rewiring works at the Maling longhouse and the Catherine Tamoh longhouse nearby.
