DAP MP: Guan Eng should go on leave - if he can do three things

DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng has posed three questions to those calling for Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to go on leave pending his corruption trial.

Lip Eng said if the answers to the three questions were in the positive, then Lim should indeed temporarily vacate his office.

The questions are:

1) Can Guan Eng influence the investigation and prosecution against him?

2) Can Guan Eng sack the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner or any police officer or prosecutor?

3) Can Guan Eng alter the statements and evidence already in the hands of the attorney-general (AG)?

Lip Eng said ultimately, the answers to these question will only be 'yes' if the person in question was Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, as only Najib had such powers.

"So why are BN leaders so hasty in asking for Guan Eng to go on leave?

"Are they so ignorant that they do not know the Penang chief minister does not have any control or influence over the MACC, police and attorney-general?

"Why don't they dare to ask Najib to go on leave or to resign as prime minister after the draft charge sheet against Najib surfaced, followed by the sacking of then attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail at that time?" Lip Eng asked.

He said it was apparent from this that Guan Eng was being politically victimised by the charges brought against him.

The Penang chief minister was yesterday charged with abuse of power in the re-zoning of land in Penang and for obtaining property without sufficient consideration.

He denied the charges and claimed they were politically motivated.
