A police report has been lodged by the DAP on the Umno Youth-Gerakan Merah demonstration held in front of its party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

DAP headquarters administration chief Chu Yoon Ming said the report was lodged because he felt threatened by the actions of the some 150 demonstrators, whom he said were mainly Umno Youth members.

Apart from the racist slogans hurled during the demonstration yesterday, hell notes were also thrown and Chu said he was even hit with the hell notes.

Denouncing the actions of the demonstrators, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said throwing hell notes was a form of criminal intimidation and that doing so meant that the thrower was threatening to kill.

“Because their actions threatened the safety of DAP leaders and staff members at the DAP headquarters, the police report was lodged.

“This is for the police to investigate and take action against individuals involved in making the threats,” Loke (photo) told reporters outside the Wangsa Maju police district headquarters today.

Meanwhile, Selangor DAP Youth treasurer Muhammad Shakir Ameer has only one question for Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to answer: "What is your stand on the way the demonstration was done?"

“Khairy always markets himself as a progressive, but looking at the video (of yesterday’s incident), it showed that his people are not such," Shakir said.

“So, what is his (Khairy’s) comment on this? Does he subscribe to hooligan politics?" he asked.

Shakir said that DAP was not questioning the right to demonstrate, but rather, on the way it was done.

“What they did was inappropriate. Don’t behave like a bunch of hooligans. Just look at their conduct yesterday,” he added.

'Is Umno Youth promoting violence?'

Meanwhile, Selangor DAP committee member Edry Faizal Yusof questioned whether Umno Youth was trying to promote violence.

“In a political climate full of violence, what Umno Youth is trying to do is to turn violence into a culture.

“We have (terror group) Islamic State (IS). Are we now going to have Umno Youth acting violent as well?"

As such, Edry (photo) said he wants to know, whether Umno would take action against the demonstrators. Failure to do so would mean that Umno agrees with such violence, he added.

Commenting on the hell notes thrown, Selangor DAP committee member Young Syefura Othman said doing so showed that the demonstrators were simply “uncivilised”.

“Where’s their maturity? As leaders of the younger generation, it’s like they didn't think before doing such things,” Syefura said.

The party’s MP for Segambut, Lim Lip Eng, cited the case of Bilqis Hijjas, who was charged with releasing yellow balloons at an event attended by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor last year.

“Police arrested her for throwing yellow balloons. So, throwing hell money is okay? We want them to be arrested,” Lim said.

Yesterday’s incident was supposed to be a simple submission of a memorandum to the DAP, but it turned into a fracas when the protesters were prevented by the police from approaching the DAP headquarters.

The protest was against DAP lawmaker Nga Kor Ming, who has been accused of insulting Islam with his Facebook postings. However, Nga has denied doing so.
