Malaysians stand with Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Abu Kassim and Abdul Gani Patail to defend the institutions they are linked to, said PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mat Akin.

Zeti is the former Bank Negara governor, Abu Kassim the outgoing MACC chief, and Gani the former attorney-general.

"I want to firmly state that Malaysians are with Zeti and the others in defending Bank Negara and MACC," said Shamsul, after sending a memorandum to the AG's Chambers in Putrajaya this morning.

Umno Youth lodged a police report yesterday, alleging that the three were involved in a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the Malaysian government.

Shamsul said Umno Youth's move was insolent and an attempt to hide the true criminal behind the 1MDB scandal.

He said Malaysians knew the identity of the person referred to as 'Malaysian Official 1' in the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) court filing to seize 1MDB-linked assets. 

The Bukit Katil MP urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to come forward on the matter, to prevent the country from becoming a laughing stock.

The DOJ alleged in its filings last week that US$731 million which originated from 1MDB went into the account of 'Malaysian Official 1'.

The transactions matched those made to Najib's accounts as revealed by the AG when he cleared Najib in January.
