PM: Practise true Islam to prevent spread of extremist ideology

The spread of extremist ideology in Malaysia can be prevented if Muslims practised true Islam that promotes peace, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said.

Citing the Islamic State (IS) militant group as an example, he said Malaysia had been adopting the wasatiyyah or moderation approach to prevent the spread of their extremist ideology.

He said the actions of the militant group did not even reflect the true teachings of Islam.

"May our country continue to be harmonious and blessed by Allah," he said in his postings on Facebook and Twitter today.

Najib also shared Surah An-Nisa': Verse 93 as mentioned by the Khatib in today's Friday prayer: "And whoever kills a believer intentionally, then his punishment is Hell; he shall abide in it forever; Allah has sent His Wrath on him and cursed him and He has prepared for him a great torment."
