Thanks for the false hope, a woman biker now rams an MB

After winning an Olympics bronze medal, national cyclist Azizulhasni Awang lashed out at Terrenganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman in a Facebook post for not helping him.

Two days after Azizulhasni's scathing posting, Anita Yusof, who claims to be the first Muslim woman to ride solo around the world on a motorcycle, took to Facebook to vent her frustration against a menteri besar.

Though choosing not to identify the menteri besar, the lecturer from Perak lashed out at him for giving her “false hope”.

In her post, which was highlighted by veteran newsman Ahiruddin Atan in his blog, Anita also took a swipe at the Ministry of Education and Public Service Department (JPA).

“To MOE, thanks for granting me cuti tanpa gaji (unpaid leave) to do this ride. To JPA, thanks for being gender biased and not giving me the support that I needed most by saying that what I am doing didn’t contribute anything to the country...

“To the MB of a state (whose name I rather not mention), thanks for giving me false hopes by saying ‘yes’ in front of me and a few others but later buat bodoh (feign ignorance) and never replying to my letter, even though I had followed up many times,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ahiruddin, who is better known as Rocky, said the episode had left him feeling a little awkward.

“Because I was the one who linked her up with the MOE back then over her wish to be accorded a cuti bergaji (paid leave) status.

“And I also took her to meet the menteri besar (of a state she'd rather not mention) at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The MB had seemed genuinely interested in what Anita was setting out to accomplish ...,” he added.

On the same note, the newsman, who is an avid biker himself, praised Anita for having achieved what most bikers could only daydream about.

A news report earlier this week said Anita, a lecturer at the Institute of Teacher Education in Ipoh, started her “Global Dream Ride” (GDR) journey on Sept 13 last year.

Her journey involved crossing 30 countries across three continents — America, Europe and Asia.

As for Azizulhasni, his beef with Ahmad Razif has been resolved with the two burying the hatchet with a handshake this week.
