Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak signed the condolence book for the late SR Nathan, the former president of Singapore this morning.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Malaysia, let me express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mr S R Nathan, former president of Singapore.

“When he was high commissioner in KL and later as president, the late president Nathan was a great advocate of closer ties between Malaysia and Singapore.

“For this, we appreciate his many contributions.

“May his soul rest in peace,” wrote the prime minister in the condolence book at the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

Nathan passed away peacefully at the Singapore General Hospital on Aug 22, three weeks after suffering a stroke.

The 92-year-old former president had served as Singapore's high commissioner to Malaysia from 1988 to 1990.

The Malaysian delegation attending the funeral in Singapore this afternoon will be led by Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai.

The delegation also includes Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Joseph Kurup.

The state funeral will be held at the University Cultural Centre (UCC), National University of Singapore from 3pm to 5pm.

Seven eulogies will be delivered, including by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
